Introduction

Hey everybody! Welcome to my Digital Economy News 2023 blog.

My name is Rachael, I'm a twenty-one year old, final year business student in Ireland. I'm currently studying a level 8 Bachelors of Business (Hons) in the Human Resource Management stream and as one of my modules I will be studying the Digital Economy.

Briefly, the Digital Economy is a worldwide network of all things economic, including commercial transactions and professional interactions which are enabled through information systems and communication technologies.

Earlier this year, I participated in a six-month student work placement in IFAC Ireland. IFAC is an Irish agri-focused accountancy firm. I was a member of the HR Services department. HR Services for those who do not know is an externally sourced service to provide human resource tools to small-medium enterprises e.g. contracts of employment, WRC inspection preparation assistance, work permit applications, access to templates and a helpdesk for legal advice and guidance. We used a software called DocuSign to assist us with all of this. DocuSign is an e-signature platform which allows businesses and individuals to legally fill out and sign forms. We used DocuSign daily internally within the business and with clients to receive details for contracts, applications and signatures. It was an amazing way to reduce waiting time and speed up processes for improved overall productivity.

My team worked alongside the Payroll Services department. I got some great experience at running fixed and variable payrolls through a software called BrightPay. BrightPay is an Irish payroll system to make things quick and easy. It automatically calculated deductions such as PAYE and PRSI by connecting to Revenue.ie. BrightPay also has a feature to send payslips to employers and employees immediately form the browser. This saved us a great amount of time, especially when working on 100's of accounts.

Overall, these software's helped improve our team's daily tasks which is just a glimpse into the great world of the Digital Economy!

Thanks for reading - Rachael.
